Mentorship Matters

A pro bono initiative guiding professionals toward high-value careers in ADR.

About Mentorship Matters

Mentorship Matters is a pro bono initiative launched by MSJ with the purpose of guiding professionals toward high-value careers in ADR. Inspired by MSJ’s own journey from civil engineering to becoming an English barrister and globally recognised ADR leader, this program provides structured support for practitioners seeking to navigate the increasingly complex ADR landscape.

From early-career lawyers and engineers to CIArb Members and Fellows, Mentorship Matters offers a clear and results-driven pathway to professional excellence.

MSJ’s Experience and Vision

With more than two decades of experience across multiple jurisdictions, MSJ has witnessed first-hand the strategic missteps, market misunderstandings, and lack of accessible guidance that prevent many professionals from reaching their potential. Mentorship Matters is designed to fill that gap by delivering practical, experience-based mentorship including career mapping, appointment strategy, digital visibility, and network building.

Ready to Step Into a High-Worth Career?

Join Mentorship Matters and unlock your potential as an ADR professional. Whether you are an engineer stepping into dispute resolution, an aspiring arbitrator seeking expert guidance, or familiar with ADR through CIArb but looking to hone practical skills, MSJ’s Mentorship Matters is your gateway to success.

How Mentorship Matters Works

Participants gain the tools to identify their unique value in the ADR space and align their career trajectory with relevant jurisdictions and institutions. Through MSJ’s expansive international network, mentees receive direct introductions, exposure to real-world arbitration cases, and insight into panel application strategies.

Each session is structured not only to transfer knowledge but also to translate it into immediate, strategic action.

Interactive Learning and Career Stages

Mentorship Matters is delivered through an interactive and modular system hosted on Moodle. Participants engage in live group sessions, curated case simulations, and performance milestones that ensure continuous progress.

The program adapts to four core professional profiles:

  • Engineers receive guidance on transitioning into dispute resolution by aligning technical expertise with arbitral practice.
  • Aspiring arbitrators including junior lawyers and legal graduates, gain foundational insight and structured exposure.
  • CIArb Members benefit from strategic clarity and shadowing opportunities to convert training into tribunal presence.
  • CIArb Fellows and seasoned professionals refine visibility through pro bono work, speaking engagements, and thought leadership projects.
